Spooky Hello

I can't believe it is September already!  I tried bringing out fall decorations in August and got a lot of push back from my family for trying to prematurely end summer.  Now that it is September, I can go crazy with the Halloween and Fall decorations and they can't say anything!

The card that I'm sharing today is from the new Spooky Sightings stamp set from The Rabbit Hole Designs.  I don't mind most animals and insects but I'm not a fan of spiders, even the harmless ones freak me out.  My kids still make fun and mimic me for the "black widow dance" I did once when I thought a black widow ran up my pant leg while unpacking a tent.  I was traumatized but everyone else thinks it is the funniest memory ever. I would definitely not want a spider hanging down to say Hello to me but it goes well with the season 😁

I didn't really have a plan in mind when I started this card but I quickly decided to get away from the yellow and oranges of fall season and go for a pink and black color scheme.  I colored the image the using pencils.

It took me a minute to decide what sentiment I wanted.  I am trying to allow myself to leave cards blank but I'm just not quite there yet so I had to have something.  I thought maybe Happy Halloween or Happy Birthday but it seemed like the spider hanging down by a giant Hello would be a better fit.  I used the "Just wanted to say Hello" sentiment from the Hello Scripty 3x4 stamp set.  I stamped the word Hello using my Misti because I can't possibly stamp without it.

Lastly, I used the A2 Acetate Shaker Sheets to turn this relatively simple card front into something fun and interactive.  I always start by attaching only two sides of the acetate sheet so that I have enough room to add sequins. I used to attach three sides and dump the sequins in from the top but I like having more room to adjust the sequins and make sure they are all flat before I attach the last sides. I chose pink and black sequins from my stash to match the color scheme of the card.

Here is a little glimpse into my craft room.  I love my sequin storage area!  I used acrylic nail polish holders and stuck them to the wall with clear command strips.

School Sightings

Today is the 2nd day of the new release and inspiration hop at The Rabbit Hole Designs!  This card is all about back to school since topic that has been dominating my house for the past few weeks.  First the shopping, then the open houses, meetings with guidance counselors, sports physicals, soccer tryouts, paperwork, more paperwork, and even more paperwork.  School started for most of the kids in my house last week so we're right in the middle of adjusting to summer ending and early mornings.  This year I've got a high school senior (exchange student from Spain), 10th grader, 8th grader, and one beginning her first year of nursing school.  Only 2 of the 4 were excited about going back to school but I won't say who they were!

For this card, I decided to use the floral bus image from the new School Sightings stamp set. I'm always a big fan of the floral elements that The Rabbit Hole Designs adds to their stamps so I really like this bus stamp.

For the sentiment, I decided to use the Adventure hot foil plate and the coordinating die set and paired those with the 'Time for a new" sentiment out of the Adventure-Scripty stamp set. There is so much possibility with the coordinating products! I used black foil and it has a really nice shine which isn't really visible in the photo.

Now here's the ugly truth.  I ALWAYS mess up the foiling.  I don't know how or why but I do it every time.  I know which way the foil goes but my brain just doesn't let me put it down correctly on the first try.  So pretty much all of my hot foil plates look like this.  But that is ok, they still work perfectly fine.  😅

Spooky Sightings

Hello!  Today marks the beginning of the new release at The Rabbit Hole Designs.  When it comes to fall, I love all the things so this release is one of my favorites!

I started out with the image of the pumpkin in a witch hat from the new stamp set Spooky Sightings and colored it with pencils.

I wasn't sure what sentiment I wanted to use with this image so I pieced together something from older stamp sets from The Rabbit Hole Designs. I like that it could be used for a Halloween card or a birthday card.  My daughter told me that pumpkin wishes aren't really a thing but I disagree 😃
I used a purple paper from the Galaxy Paper Pack.  I love this paper, I should order another pack because I'm going through mine pretty quickly!  Then I layered with some black cardstock and added a few black gems for a little sparkle.

Soft Hugs

Today is day 3 of the August release at The Rabbit Hole Designs and I'm sharing a card that I made using the new Soft Hugs stamp set.  This stamp set is to cute and unique!  I chose the stamp with three cotton bolls and colored with pencils. I used the coordinating die to cut it out and popped it up with foam onto a brown oval.  For the background, I used the new Falling Leaves stamp set and cut out a rectangle with the  You've Been Framed Layering Dies.  I added the sentiment and mounted the whole card front onto a brown card base.  For the final touch, I added a few Clear Sparkle Enamel Dots.

Autumn Wonder

Today is the first day of the new release at The Rabbit Hole Designs!  I love this release, it is all fall themed adorableness.  There is not much that I like more than curling up with a good book on a cool fall day so this Autumn is Calling stamp set is perfect for me.  For my card, I used the image with the books and mushrooms and colored with pencils.  I stamped the sentiment "Autumn holds a wonder all its own" directly on the card front, rounded the corners with a punch and mounted it on a green card stock.  Since I can't get enough of the Shaker Acetate Sheets, I definitely had to make this one into a shaker card.  I used fall colored sequins and shaker bits to match the fall vibe of the card.  I'm really happy with how the card turned out and I can't wait to share more cards from this release over the next few days!

Once Upon a Time #11

I can't believe it is June!  The school year is just about over and we are in the thick of end of the year school events.  Graduations and graduation parties, end of the year field trips, exchange students preparing to go back to their home countries...our house gets pretty crazy this time of year!

I actually think the book for the Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog, The Little Engine That Could, ties into my life right now.  I think I can make it over this mountain of chaos that will lead into summer 😀

If the Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog is new to you, the basic idea is that there is a monthly children's book and the challenge is to create a card inspired by the book cover.  If you'd like to play along, more details can be found on the Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog.

For my card, I started by using a stencil to create the background.  I roughly followed the book cover, making the ground green, the track area brown and they sky yellow/orange.  For the train itself, I used a stamp set from The Stamps of Life.  I colored the train blue and yellow which is similar to the little engine in the book.  I stamped the tracks directly onto the background and fussy cut the train, which I mounted on foam tape for some dimension.  I scissor cut the smoke from some gray card stock and inked a little around the edges.  There were several sentiments in the stamp set to choose from but I decided to go with "Just chugging by to say Happy Birthday to Choo!''

Challenge details and design team inspiration can be found on the Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog.  I hope you'll join us and play along this month!

TRHD-June Inspiration Hop-Day 3

Today is the 3rd day of the June new release inspiration hop at The Rabbit Hole Designs and I'm featuring a card made with the new Cherry on Top stamp set, illustrated by Agota Pop.  I always say in my posts that I love puns but maybe something you don't know about me is that I especially love produce puns.  I know that is a weird thing to love!  Maybe it's working in a grocery store for all those years before I had the kids.  Whatever it is, they crack me up.  My favorite pun in this stamp set is definitely "keep calm and cherry on."  So cute!

For my card, I used the brick stencil from The Rabbit Hole Designs to create a blue background.  I colored the cherries with pencils and popped it up on a scalloped circle die.  I stamped the sentiment directly on the background and added some foam tape to the word cherry to give it a little dimension.  It is so fun that the word cherry is included in the coordinating die set!  I mounted the whole card front on the red card base and added a few little red rhinestones for some sparkle.  I'm really happy with how this card turned out.  When I started it, I had a vision for a picnic theme and I think the card really does have a picnic vibe!

TRHD-June Inspiration Hop-Day 1

It's release day over at The Rabbit Hole Designs and there are some super fun summery sets this month!  I had a hard time deciding which card to share today so I let my exchange student choose for me 😀  She said the reason she liked this one is because "the words are funny".  I have to agree, this One in a Melon stamp set, illustrated by Agota Pop,  has a few puns and they are so cute 🍉

I started the card by coloring the image with Caran D'Anche Pablo pencils.  I used the watermelon slice from the stamp set to create a background by stamping the melon in random directions in red and green ink. I add the sentiment in green and used a red strip of card stock behind the sentiment and the cupcake.  I mounted the whole thing on a green card base.  For some sparkle, I added black rhinestones from my stash to mimic watermelon seeds.

ONCE UPON A TME #10 ONE LOVE

I can't believe it is May 1st!  2023 is just flying by.  Today marks the start of a new challenge at Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog.  As always, the theme is based off of a children's book cover.  The challenge is to create a card inspired by the cover.  This month's book is One Love by Bob Marley.  It took me a bit to decide how I wanted to make my card.  Usually, I try to mimic the cover of the book in some way but this time I decided to take the theme of One Love and make a wedding card using hearts.  I don't have very many stamps or sentiments relating to weddings but I thought this "Wishing you the most beautiful day" sentiment from The Stamps of Life would be perfect. Since the book has green writing, I decided to use green as the main background color.  So from the book I've pulled the theme of love (hearts and wedding card) and the color green.  The other thing I wanted to add was sparkle so I heat embossed the sentiment in silver and found some shiny silver card stock for the leaves and background of the sentiment.  For the flowers and card front, I used a really pretty glittery white card stock.  Of course it is hard to see in the photos but it really sparkles.  And the last bling I added was silver rhinestones in the center of all the flowers and a few around the sentiment.

I tried to post a short video so you could see some of the sparkle.  For some reason, it won't post.  You can check out my Instagram if you want to see the video. I think it turned out really well and I it is perfect for my cousin's wedding in a few weeks.
Now for some exciting news!  Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog is having a design team call!  If you are interested in joining the DT or guest designing, HERE is a link to DT Call details.  I joined as a guest designer for the 2nd challenge and then shortly after decided to join as a design team member.  It's a really fun challenge, especially if you love children's books, and the best part is the commitment is only one card per month.

I hope you'll join us at Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog this month!  Details, design team inspiration and DT call details can be found on the blog. And make sure to stop by again next month for the June challenge.  I can't give any spoilers but it is a book that most of us will recognize and I can't wait to make the card for it!

TRHD May Inspiration Hop-Day 2

It is day 2 of new release inspiration blog hop and giveaway at The Rabbit Hole Designs!  For my card, I'm featuring two new products.  The first new product is the stamp set is Otter Play, illustrated by Agota Pop.  There are also some cute otters in the stamp set but this time I choose to go with the vacationing crab.  I feel like him exactly right now because it is April 25 and we've got snow falling.  All I can think of is going somewhere warm for vacation 😁
The background is made using the new Making Waves stencil.  This stencil has different wave patterns on all four sides, which I think is amazing.  No other stencils that I have are like that.  I used three of the four sides and several blues to create a wavy background. I made another card where I blotted  white pigment ink over some of the waves for a little bit of ocean foam but that card is for another day. 😜
The for the sand, I used a brown card stock and stamped on some sandy texture with a stamp I had in my stash.
The crab and the vacation sign are colored with Caran D'Anche Pablo pencils, which are quickly becoming my favorite.

Here is the list of blogs that you can check out to find more inspiration from this stamp set!

TRHD May Inspiration Hop-Day 1

Hello! Welcome to day 1 of the inspiration hop for the new release at The Rabbit Hole Designs! The release this month includes some really adorable stamps and a super cool stencil. Today I'm featuring a card that I made using the Lovely Lilies stamp set with coordinating dies, illustrated by Kelly Taylor.
For the background, I used the Back Alley stencil (an older stencil from The Rabbit Hole Designs) and inked some brown ink onto a light brown cardstock. I stamped the sentiment, also from the Lovely Lilies stamp set, directly onto the background.

I colored the lily with oranges and yellows from my new colored pencils set, Caran D'Anche Pablo. This was my first time using them and, although I will always love my Prisma pencils, these are definitely giving them some competition. They were super easy to use, the colors are bright, and blended quite well. Pablo pencils have a harder lead than Prismacolors so it was a little easier to get details, especially
around the stamen of the flowers.

I mounted the lily onto a yellow circle bordered with
a darker brown and added a few rhinestones for some shine.

Halloween Crafts All Year 'Round #3

Hello!  Today marks a new challenge at Halloween Crafts All Year 'Round and I'm excited to be joining them as a guest designer for this current challenge.  I love Halloween and I think its fun to pull out some Halloween stamps right around the time that most people are finishing up with easter cards.

For my card, I used a fun monster stamp and colored him with alcohol markers.  I added a little frame around him for some dimension and a halloween themed paper in the back ground.

The Halloween Crafts all Year 'Round is a fairly new challenge so I'd love it if you joined the challenge and shared it with your crafty friends!  Challenge details and design team inspiration can be found on the blog.

Get Creative #120

The new challenge at Get Creative Challenges is underway and the theme is Springtime Blues.  I've posted cards made with this Gnome Matter What stamp set from Simon Says Stamp before but I keep going back to it.  I guess that means I like it 😆 I colored the gnome with alcohol markers and stamped the sentiment in a dark blue. After I already had the card front made, I realized that it would have been cuter if I'd made the center part of the card into a shaker. THEN I realized that I still had the brand new A2 Acetate Shaker sheets from the Rabbit Hole Design sitting on my desk from the project I was working on earlier.  It is so fast to turn any A2 card front into a shaker!  I finished it by adding a blue sequin mix.

I hope you'll join us at Get Creative Challenges for the challenge this month!  Challenge details and design team inspiration can be found at the Get Creative Challenges blog.

Once Upon a Time # 9

I can't believe it is April already and we are finally moving into some spring weather!  As always, the beginning of the month brings the start of a new challenge at Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog.  If you haven't heard of this challenge before, it is super fun and I love it.  The theme every month is a different children's book.  The challenge is to make a card (or other craft project) that is inspired by the current book cover.  I think the reason I love this challenge so much is because my kids are all too old for me to read bedtime stories to anymore and the books in this challenge are often very nostalgic for me.  This month the book is Corduroy by Don Freeman and was originally written in 1968.  I can't even begin to guess how many times I've read this book to my all three of my kids.  I think there was probably a time when I barely needed the words because it was committed to my memory.

I decided to mimic the cover of the book by using a bear dressed in green and with a red background.  The bear stamp and sentiment are both from The Stamps of Life, although they came from two different stamp sets.

I hope you'll join us this month for the challenge at Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog!  Challenge details and design team inspiration can be found on the blog.

Meerly Popping up to say I MISS YOU

Today is Day 3 of April's new releases at The Rabbit Hole Designs.  I couldn't decide which card I wanted to post so I will post two😁

For this first card, I used the I REALLY DIG YOU 4x6 stamp set from The Rabbit Hole Designs, illustrated by Agota Pop.  Using the cooradinating dies, I cut out the meerkat that I'd colored with Prismacolor Pencils and popped it up with some foam tape for a little dimension.  The flowers and sentiment are from the same stamp set.  I made the background using the new TORN PAPER stencil, also from The Rabbit Hole Designs.  I blended blue and purple inks to make a colorful yet simple background.

For my 2nd card, I used the MEANINGFUL MEERKATS 4X6 stamp set from The Rabbit Hole Designs, illustrated by Agota Pop.  I think all of the meerkats in this release are so sweet and pretty!  For the background, I used the new BEAM OF LIGHT STENCIL and paired it with an older stencil from The Rabbit Hole Designs called MESH-OPTICAL ILLUSION.  I really like the texture I got from using both stencils together.  And of course I can't forget to mention my new favorite product, the ACETATE SHAKER SHEETS.  I love how I can make any card front into a shaker card in minutes.  I finally have a use for all the sequins and shaker bits I've been collecting and it is so fun picking the the ones that I want to add to the card!

Meaningful Meerkats

Today is Day 2 for the new release at The Rabbit Hole Designs and I used the stamp set Meaningful Meerkats 4x6 for my card today. I think this set is so pretty and elegant.  Who knew a meerkat could look elegant?  With the sweet face and bouquet head band, that's exactly what it is.  And the sentiments are really kind.  I love a good pun in a sentiment but sometimes we all need a little simplicity and the sentiments in this set are perfect.

The Meaningful Meerkats 4x6 stamp set is illustrated by Agota Pop and she is so talented.  Sometimes I watch her coloring videos on Instagram and they are mesmerizing.

I wanted a simple background and with the new Torn Paper stencil from The Rabbit Hole Designs it was easy to make.  You might recognize the You've Been Framed Layering Dies too.  Those have become my go to for all my layering rectangle needs.  I love the unique border and each size has a slightly different design.

I REALLY DIG YOU

Today is an exciting day because it is release day over at The Rabbit Hole Designs!  They have two new stamp sets, two stencils and a super fun new product for making easy peasy shaker cards.

I made this card using three of the new release items.  The stamp set that I used is I Really Dig You 4x6 along with the coordinating dies. The meerkats in this set are so cute and the sentiments are adorable. I masked the fence stamp and ink blended over it leaving a cute white picket fence. For the bottom portion, I used the Torn Paper 4x8 Stencil and different colors of brown to create a dirt floor. To finish it off, I used the new Shaker Acetate Sheets.  Although I love shaker cards, I seldom make them.  It is always such a pain and I don't want to take the time to do it.  But these acetate sheets take all the work out of the equation and make it so simple and fast.  There really isn't even a learning curve, it is easy from the get-go.

Get Creative #118

A new challenge is starting today at Get Creative Challenges!  The theme this month is hearts.  I didn't want to make a Valentine's Day card so I decided to use hearts as the background.  I had already colored the purple floral images so that part was done.  I used an embossing folder to make the heart background and added a Happy Birthday sentiment.  With a purple layer behind everything, this card turned out exactly as I had in mind.  That's unusual for me.  More often than not, my final card looks very different from what I had originally planned. 😀

I hope you'll join us for the challenge at Get Creative Challenges this month!  Challenge details and DT inspiration can be found on the blog.
