Spooky Hello

I can't believe it is September already!  I tried bringing out fall decorations in August and got a lot of push back from my family for trying to prematurely end summer.  Now that it is September, I can go crazy with the Halloween and Fall decorations and they can't say anything!

The card that I'm sharing today is from the new Spooky Sightings stamp set from The Rabbit Hole Designs.  I don't mind most animals and insects but I'm not a fan of spiders, even the harmless ones freak me out.  My kids still make fun and mimic me for the "black widow dance" I did once when I thought a black widow ran up my pant leg while unpacking a tent.  I was traumatized but everyone else thinks it is the funniest memory ever. I would definitely not want a spider hanging down to say Hello to me but it goes well with the season 😁

I didn't really have a plan in mind when I started this card but I quickly decided to get away from the yellow and oranges of fall season and go for a pink and black color scheme.  I colored the image the using pencils.

It took me a minute to decide what sentiment I wanted.  I am trying to allow myself to leave cards blank but I'm just not quite there yet so I had to have something.  I thought maybe Happy Halloween or Happy Birthday but it seemed like the spider hanging down by a giant Hello would be a better fit.  I used the "Just wanted to say Hello" sentiment from the Hello Scripty 3x4 stamp set.  I stamped the word Hello using my Misti because I can't possibly stamp without it.

Lastly, I used the A2 Acetate Shaker Sheets to turn this relatively simple card front into something fun and interactive.  I always start by attaching only two sides of the acetate sheet so that I have enough room to add sequins. I used to attach three sides and dump the sequins in from the top but I like having more room to adjust the sequins and make sure they are all flat before I attach the last sides. I chose pink and black sequins from my stash to match the color scheme of the card.

Here is a little glimpse into my craft room.  I love my sequin storage area!  I used acrylic nail polish holders and stuck them to the wall with clear command strips.

School Sightings

Today is the 2nd day of the new release and inspiration hop at The Rabbit Hole Designs!  This card is all about back to school since topic that has been dominating my house for the past few weeks.  First the shopping, then the open houses, meetings with guidance counselors, sports physicals, soccer tryouts, paperwork, more paperwork, and even more paperwork.  School started for most of the kids in my house last week so we're right in the middle of adjusting to summer ending and early mornings.  This year I've got a high school senior (exchange student from Spain), 10th grader, 8th grader, and one beginning her first year of nursing school.  Only 2 of the 4 were excited about going back to school but I won't say who they were!

For this card, I decided to use the floral bus image from the new School Sightings stamp set. I'm always a big fan of the floral elements that The Rabbit Hole Designs adds to their stamps so I really like this bus stamp.

For the sentiment, I decided to use the Adventure hot foil plate and the coordinating die set and paired those with the 'Time for a new" sentiment out of the Adventure-Scripty stamp set. There is so much possibility with the coordinating products! I used black foil and it has a really nice shine which isn't really visible in the photo.

Now here's the ugly truth.  I ALWAYS mess up the foiling.  I don't know how or why but I do it every time.  I know which way the foil goes but my brain just doesn't let me put it down correctly on the first try.  So pretty much all of my hot foil plates look like this.  But that is ok, they still work perfectly fine.  😅

Spooky Sightings

Hello!  Today marks the beginning of the new release at The Rabbit Hole Designs.  When it comes to fall, I love all the things so this release is one of my favorites!

I started out with the image of the pumpkin in a witch hat from the new stamp set Spooky Sightings and colored it with pencils.

I wasn't sure what sentiment I wanted to use with this image so I pieced together something from older stamp sets from The Rabbit Hole Designs. I like that it could be used for a Halloween card or a birthday card.  My daughter told me that pumpkin wishes aren't really a thing but I disagree 😃
I used a purple paper from the Galaxy Paper Pack.  I love this paper, I should order another pack because I'm going through mine pretty quickly!  Then I layered with some black cardstock and added a few black gems for a little sparkle.

Soft Hugs

Today is day 3 of the August release at The Rabbit Hole Designs and I'm sharing a card that I made using the new Soft Hugs stamp set.  This stamp set is to cute and unique!  I chose the stamp with three cotton bolls and colored with pencils. I used the coordinating die to cut it out and popped it up with foam onto a brown oval.  For the background, I used the new Falling Leaves stamp set and cut out a rectangle with the  You've Been Framed Layering Dies.  I added the sentiment and mounted the whole card front onto a brown card base.  For the final touch, I added a few Clear Sparkle Enamel Dots.

Autumn Wonder

Today is the first day of the new release at The Rabbit Hole Designs!  I love this release, it is all fall themed adorableness.  There is not much that I like more than curling up with a good book on a cool fall day so this Autumn is Calling stamp set is perfect for me.  For my card, I used the image with the books and mushrooms and colored with pencils.  I stamped the sentiment "Autumn holds a wonder all its own" directly on the card front, rounded the corners with a punch and mounted it on a green card stock.  Since I can't get enough of the Shaker Acetate Sheets, I definitely had to make this one into a shaker card.  I used fall colored sequins and shaker bits to match the fall vibe of the card.  I'm really happy with how the card turned out and I can't wait to share more cards from this release over the next few days!

Once Upon a Time #11

I can't believe it is June!  The school year is just about over and we are in the thick of end of the year school events.  Graduations and graduation parties, end of the year field trips, exchange students preparing to go back to their home countries...our house gets pretty crazy this time of year!

I actually think the book for the Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog, The Little Engine That Could, ties into my life right now.  I think I can make it over this mountain of chaos that will lead into summer 😀

If the Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog is new to you, the basic idea is that there is a monthly children's book and the challenge is to create a card inspired by the book cover.  If you'd like to play along, more details can be found on the Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog.

For my card, I started by using a stencil to create the background.  I roughly followed the book cover, making the ground green, the track area brown and they sky yellow/orange.  For the train itself, I used a stamp set from The Stamps of Life.  I colored the train blue and yellow which is similar to the little engine in the book.  I stamped the tracks directly onto the background and fussy cut the train, which I mounted on foam tape for some dimension.  I scissor cut the smoke from some gray card stock and inked a little around the edges.  There were several sentiments in the stamp set to choose from but I decided to go with "Just chugging by to say Happy Birthday to Choo!''

Challenge details and design team inspiration can be found on the Once Upon a Time Challenge Blog.  I hope you'll join us and play along this month!

TRHD-June Inspiration Hop-Day 3

Today is the 3rd day of the June new release inspiration hop at The Rabbit Hole Designs and I'm featuring a card made with the new Cherry on Top stamp set, illustrated by Agota Pop.  I always say in my posts that I love puns but maybe something you don't know about me is that I especially love produce puns.  I know that is a weird thing to love!  Maybe it's working in a grocery store for all those years before I had the kids.  Whatever it is, they crack me up.  My favorite pun in this stamp set is definitely "keep calm and cherry on."  So cute!

For my card, I used the brick stencil from The Rabbit Hole Designs to create a blue background.  I colored the cherries with pencils and popped it up on a scalloped circle die.  I stamped the sentiment directly on the background and added some foam tape to the word cherry to give it a little dimension.  It is so fun that the word cherry is included in the coordinating die set!  I mounted the whole card front on the red card base and added a few little red rhinestones for some sparkle.  I'm really happy with how this card turned out.  When I started it, I had a vision for a picnic theme and I think the card really does have a picnic vibe!
